Friday, December 11^th , the Maquoketa High School Wrestling Club will honor Coach Jeff Tampir to recognize his induction into the Iowa Coaches and Officials Wrestling Association.

Wrestling fans, alumni, friends and supporters are encouraged to attend the Zimmerman Wrestling tournament.  Right before finals, the team will award Tampir with a glass encased MCHS wrestling singlet and stand in honor of his career achievements.  The singlet is sponsored by the Maquoketa Wrestling Alumni Club.

Tod Bowman, head coach for the MCHS Wrestling program , and former wrestler for Tampir says, “This is the opportunity for all of us to thank Tampir and honor his career.  It’s an amazing career where success comes from the way he treats other people.  It comes from the support of other coaches, the support of all his students he’s coached, his family and our entire community.”

After the tournament all are invited to join Coach Tampir and other wrestling alumni and supporters at the Decker Hotel & Restaurant Pub.

In addition, we have added an Alumni Volleyball Tournament for all former female graduates.  Matches will begin at 12pm on Saturday, November 28th, and all games will be played in the old MCHS gymnasium.  See the brackets below (click to enlarge).

Did you know:

Membership in the MCHSAA (Maquoketa Community High School Alumni Association) is open to alumni and friends of MCHS.  The value added benefit of becoming a member is giving graduates and friends an opportunity to “give back” to their alma mater by providing scholarships, supporting alumni events to connect the past with the future, and this past year we purchased a brick to support the High School renovation.

Your membership is listed on the web site.  Again….new this year is lowered membership rates!  We’ve been successful in fundraising and want to expand our membership base.  For each brand new membership we’ll send you a free MCHSAA T-Shirt.  For those of you who are renewing your membership – you might already have this t-shirt or they will be available for $10.00 at the Homecoming Football game.  (We’ll also be giving many away as prizes.)

Events in 2009/2010 include:

• Special recognition at homecoming for the year of 1984 football players
• We’ll be hosting an Alumni Tent AT THE GAME, and an after party at the Decker Bar & Grill” – Friday, September 25^th   /  Maquoketa vs. Anamosa
• Alumni basketball tournament (including women’s volleyball tourney) on Saturday, November 28^th
• Two $500 scholarships awarded.  (This past year awarded to Megan Engel and Dillon O’Connell)

Membership Renews each October 1

The alumni association will be hosting a “meet and greet” at their alumni tent near the field during the game.  

Head Coach Kevin Bowman and his staff and team are honoring football alumni from the class of 1984.

The alumni association will be giving away t-shirts and other prizes during the game.  Be sure to visit their tent.

And after the game, the alumni association is hosting an After Game party at the Decker Hotel Pub.  Immediately following the game.

T-shirts and other free items will be given away – it’s a must attend event.  (Old high school photos have been found and will be on a DVD display!)

Remember everyone with a connection to our schools are invited and encouraged to visit the alumni association tent at the game and come to the after game party.

For the past four years the alumni association has given two $500 scholarships to a female and male student graduating each spring.

The Alumni Association would like to extend a special thanks to Jack Marlowe for being present at the event and assisting with the tip-off of the championship game; to the Maquoketa Community School District, Kim Huckstadt and Tracy Wilkins for the use of their facility; to Owen Hayes, Brian Moore, Kevin Burns, Brent Nugent, Dave McLaughlin, Seth Knickrehm, Michael Hermes, Michael Till, Will Renner, Chris Stillmunkes, Steve Ferguson and Frank Reisen for officiating the games; to Baylor Shanahan, Conner Taylor, Brodie Moore, Kevin Bowman, Austin Dietzel, Keith Keil, Mike Lietz, Greg Daniels and Jack Marlowe for help running the clock and keeping score; and to Sherry Yanda and Kathy Seyfert for working the gate and information table. This was a special day for the Maquoketa Community School District. Many former players and Alumni had a chance for the first time to view and enjoy the new facilities at the High School. The comments made about this new facility were very positive. We are looking forward to maintaining this tradition and bringing the tournament back to the High School Gymnasium next year. The day was filled with a lot of good basketball, but more so, a lot of good friendships were revisited during and following the event.

MCHS Alumni Association

This year there will be a nominal admission fee for spectators and a concession stand will be available. Please note that this event is a fund raiser and all proceeds will go directly to the Maquoketa Community School District. The MCHAA will be donating $2200 to the High School for upcoming spring and again two $500 scholarships will be awarded next spring to MCHS graduating seniors.

Everyone is now encouraged to join the Association.  There are different membership levels including one for students.  Applications are on-line or available by calling or emailing a committee member.  Visit:  www.maquokeatalumni.com
