The 12th Annual Jack Marlowe Alumni Basketball Tournament, organized by the Maquoketa Community High School Alumni Association, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 29th at the Maquoketa Community High School. Games will start at noon and we will be running two courts. To qualify to play, you simply need to have graduated from either Maquoketa Community High School or the former Delwood High School. Your graduating class may combine with other classes if the team size is under five players, and the combined team size is under ten. Cost is $85 per team (preferably in advance). To sign up your team, contact Doug Knickrehm 563-652-2816 email dknickrehm1@msn.com. It is important that you sign up as early as possible. The Deadline for entries is Sunday November 23, 2008.
As in previous years, the tournament is a single-elimination style tournament. Before each game begins, a single point for every year’s difference between the two participating teams, with a maximum of twenty points, is awarded to the earlier graduating class. Volunteer referees, time keepers and score keepers are needed. For more information, please email me@gmail.com or call any committee member: Kevin Bowman, Don Carson, Bob Gavin, Lori Johnson, Doug Knickrehm, Kerry Schepers, Susan Sheets, or Chad Specht.
This year there will be a nominal admission fee for spectators and a concession stand will be available. Please note that this event is a fund raiser and all proceeds will go directly to the Maquoketa Community School District. The MCHAA will be donating $2200 to the High School for upcoming spring and again two $500 scholarships will be awarded next spring to MCHS graduating seniors.
Everyone is now encouraged to join the Association. There are different membership levels including one for students. Applications are on-line or available by calling or emailing a committee member. Visit: www.maquokeatalumni.com
The mission of this group is simple, “The mission of the Maquoketa Community High School Alumni Association is to encourage and continue to support a life-long relationship between the Maquoketa Community High School and its alumni and friends.”
